Bids On Iconic 'Ziggurat' Building Soar Above Asking Price: Report

The auction for the Chet Holifield Federal Building and surrounding land is now nine-digits above the government's asking price.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — The auction for Laguna Niguel's Chet Holifield Federal Building — alternatively known as the "Ziggurat" building — is nine-digits above the government's original ask, The Orange County Register reported.

According to the newspaper, the General Services Administration auction site shows two bids made on Monday that pushed the building's price to $170.4 million — which is $100.4 million above the $70 million that opened bidding on June 5.

The General Services Administration announced the plan to start accepting bids for the building starting at $70 million on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, with no requirement for the buyer to preserve the building.
