Deadly DUI Crash Kills 88-Year-Old, Police Say; Driver Arrested
The crash was reported at the intersection of Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive in the City of Dana Point, authorities said.
DANA POINT, CA — One man died and a second was seriously injured in a head-on crash in Dana Point Friday, Jan. 31, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said. Upon arriving, deputies found a Land Rover SUV and a Ford Transit van that had been involved in a head-on crash.
According to investigators, a Land Rover SUV was traveling westbound on Stonehill Drive and turned left against a red arrow signal in front of a Ford Transit van traveling eastbound on Stonehill Drive.

A passenger of the transit van, identified as Dana Point man Melvin Joseph Weibel, 88, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the Land Rover, 48-year-old Serene Francie Rosenberg, 48 ,was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with three prior convictions and booked into the Orange County Jail for murder and DUI causing injury.
