Doheny Desalination Plant One Step Closer To Approval: Report
One of three state permits needed to build a desalination plant near Doheny State Beach was approved Wednesday, the OC Register reported.

DANA POINT, CA — A proposed desalination plant near Doheny State Beach in Dana Point got one step closer to becoming a reality, the Orange County Register reported.
The San Diego Regional Water Control Board unanimously approved a permit for the construction of the plant, the paper reported. The plant needs to be approved by three state agencies before construction can begin.
The Laguna Beach-based South Coast Water District is spearheading the plant.

If the project does come to fruition, the plant could potentially produce more than 5 million gallons of drinkable water per day, the Register reported.
