Laguna Niguel Ranked Among Top 10 Safest Cities In California

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — Online security review website SafeWise released its ranking of the Top 50 Safest Cities in California for 2022 on March 8, and Laguna Niguel was ranked the sixth safest city in the state.

To determine how Laguna Niguel became one of the safest cities in the Golden State, SafeWise looked at FBI crime statistics and demographic information for each city in California, the company said.

"The ‘safest’ cities rankings are intended to highlight cities with low crime rates and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer," SafeWise said on its website.

Laguna Niguel Mayor Elaine Gennawey said in a statement she was proud of the city's position on the list and that public safety is the number one goal of the city's strategic plan.

She attributed the city's position to the work of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, city staff members and volunteers that make up the Laguna Niguel Police Services. She also lauded the proactive nature of residents' when it comes to public safety.

"Our alert and engaged resident who 'see something, say something' plays a large role in keeping our community safe," Gennawey said. "Let's continue to work together for the safe community we value so that we can enjoy all that Laguna Niguel has to offer."
