Laguna Niguel to Grant $32K to Local Non-profits

The city of Laguna Niguel has almost $32,000 this year to grant to non-profits in town that provide service to the community or advance cultural arts.

Last year, grant awards ranged from $1,000 to $5,000, said Ashley Garcia, who administers the grants.

"They don't fund and entire program, but they help support it," she said. "It's a variety of programs in the community that provide services. We have some organizations that apply year after year."

Past grant recipients have included the high school Instrumental Music Foundation, AgeWell senior services, the after-school program Girls Support, the Ocean Institute in Dana Point and the Laguna Niguel Senior Citizens Club, Garcia said.

"A lot are youth-oriented, a lot are senior-oriented," she said.

All requests for funds will be considered and reviewed by a City Council subcommittee, which will make recommendations to the full City Council, according to the city's website. Grants are available for non-profit organizations only. These organizations must provide services in Laguna Niguel for Laguna Niguel residents and/or provide services for students attending schools that serve Laguna Niguel residents, the site states.

Grant applications must be received at Laguna Niguel City Hall no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 9.
