No Interest Shown In 'Ziggurat Building,' Feds Revisit $70M Pricetag
The iconic building located in Laguna Niguel was put up for auction last month and failed to draw a single bid by Wednesday's deadline.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — The distinct Chet Holifield Federal Building in Laguna Niguel, colloquially known as the Ziggurat Building, was put up for auction last month and failed to draw a single bid by its deadline Wednesday, the Orange County Register reported.
Now, U.S. General Services Administration officials will determine a cause as to why the building didn't sell. A federal spokesman told the OC Register that the starting bid of $70 million was suggested because "that was what the market dictated."
The sprawling 89-acre property has been a fixture on Alicia Parkway for more than fifty years. The pyramid-esque designed structure was designed by William Pereira, known for his design of the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco and the Los Angeles International Airport.
