Transient Arrested, Suspected in Attack on Real Estate Agent

John Thomas Glenn told deputies he was under the influence of drugs and was attempting to gain entry into the home to commit a theft.

County Sheriff’s deputies today arrested John Thomas Glenn, 23, Laguna Niguel (transient), in connection with a physical assault of a real estate agent yesterday.

Glenn was arrested by deputies in the area of Crown Valley Parkway and Niguel Road as he walked out of a nearby park.

On Saturday, at approximately 1 p.m., Glenn is accused of physically assaulting a 55-year-old, female real estate agent as she accessed a lock box on the front door of a Laguna Niguel home. Glenn allegedly approached the female victim, placed her in a chokehold and punched her several times causing her to begin losing consciousness.

He allegedly fled the immediate area and subsequently became engaged in a physical altercation with a neighbor who heard the commotion, before fleeing the area on foot. An intense search ensued utilizing patrol deputies, air support and bloodhounds; however, Glenn could not be located.

Orange County Sheriff’s investigators immediately initiated an investigation in attempt to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Over the last 24 hours, investigators obtained evidence and learned information that aided in identification and the arrest of Glenn. Following the arrest of Glenn, he indicated to investigators that he was under the influence of drugs and was attempting to gain entry into the home to commit a theft. Investigators believe this was a crime of opportunity and not directed at the victim as a result of her being a real estate agent.

Glenn was arrested and booked into Orange County Jail on charges of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $50K bail and expected to appear in court on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
