Lifeguards Give Three Kayakers a Lift Back to La Jolla Shores
The two kayaks have trouble as the skies begin to darken.

Lifeguards at La Jolla Shores noticed that three people aboard two kayaks at least a mile out at sea were having trouble making it back to shore Friday morning and sent rescue boats that brought everyone back safely, said Lt. John Everhart of the San Diego Lifeguard Service.
On a windy day with a storm bearing down on the region, lifeguards were keeping an eye on the trio and saw they were struggling around 11 a.m.
"Our lifeguards were watching them and recognized that they weren't making any progress making it back to shore and that they were capsizing frequently," Everhart said.

Two lifeguard boats were sent to assist the kayakers—two men and a woman in their early 20s—and Everhart said the single kayaker would have been able to make it ashore without assistance, but the tandem kayakers were having trouble and it was decided to bring all three back to the beach.
"There were no injuries; it was a successful rescue," Everhart said. "We had two lifeguard boats go out and conduct the rescue and everyone's safe."
