Orcas Play In Boat's Wake Off San Diego Coast: VIDEO

A group of tourists had an experience of a lifetime when several killer whales began jumping in the water just feet away from them.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- A group of tourists in San Diego recently had an experience of a lifetime when they were able to witness several orcas, or killer whales, jumping in the water just feet away from them. The interaction, captured on video by Ryan Sweeney of Brink Expeditions, shows the orcas jumping in the boat's wake.

Sweeney shared the video on Instagram, which went viral, receiving hundreds of views and Likes.

"So today we encountered a pod of about 5 #orcas!" Sweeney wrote. "They swam around the #boat curiously and playfully. Checking us out from below. We saw the big one #chomping on what appeared to be a #sealion!"

Sweeney went on to say the orcas were "were rolling, twisting and raising their tails in the wake to surf better. At some points jumping so close to the boat that it seemed like those on the bottom deck could have reached out and touched them."

#motherocean you never cease to amaze. So today we encountered a pod of about 5 #orca s! They swam around the #boat curiously and playfully. Checking us out from below. We saw the big one #chomping on what appeared to be a #sealion! While the juveniles entertained them selves with us. Then I decided to see if they would play in our wake... & this happened! All of our customers had cameras rolling and we can’t wait to compile everyone’s footage. They were rolling, twisting and raising their tails in the wake to surf better. At some points jumping so close to the boat that it seemed like those on the bottom deck could have reached out and touched them. They made eye contact. Man... #nature is something. I will have 1 regret to ponder forever more... why did my dumb ass not throw on a mask and at least hang off the swim step to see if they’d greet me. They seemed playful and curious and friendly... but also one was eating a sea lion :p ... but really though, I should have jumped in.
