The landmark cross on La Jolla’s Mount Soledad may still face judicial scrutiny after the U.S. Supreme Court signaled Monday that “The lawsuit against the Mount Soledad War Memorial is an insult to our veterans and their service,” said Rep. Brian Bilbray, spearheading efforts in Congress to preserve the landmark. Is Bilbray on target, or missing the point of the First Amendment’s establishment clause?
