10 Vehicles Towed During Lake Elsinore DUI Checkpoint

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A weekend DUI/driver's license checkpoint in Lake Elsinore netted multiple arrests, the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station announced.
The operation was held from 8 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday at Railroad Canyon Road and Church Street.
Deputies screened 1,123 vehicles during the checkpoint and two people were arrested on suspicion of DUI, while one felony and two misdemeanor warrants were served, according to the station.

Twelve citations were issued to unlicensed drivers and another five tickets were handed out to motorists driving on a suspended license, the station reported.
As a result of the arrests and citations, 10 vehicles were towed.

During the checkpoint, deputies were looking for signs of drivers who were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs/medications.
Drivers convicted of a DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
