Brush Fire Near Cajalco Road Halted

The blaze was reported in the area of Eagle Canyon and Cajalco roads, between Interstate 15 and Lake Mathews.

EL CERRITO, CA — A brush fire that erupted Monday in the hills just east of El Cerrito scorched roughly two acres before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 2:05 p.m. in the area of Eagle Canyon and Cajalco roads, between Interstate 15 to the west and Lake Mathews to the east, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engine crews from the county and Corona Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered flames burning in medium vegetation to the north, according to the agency.

Cal Fire air tankers were summoned to the area, but they weren't needed. The fire's forward rate of spread was halted within 20 minutes, according to officials.

The blaze was largely contained by 3 p.m.
