Coroner IDs Motorcyclist Killed On Ortega Highway, CHP Investigates Crash
CHP officers say that "speed contributed to the crash" of a Lexus vs. a motorcycle on a SR-74, Ortega Highway curve. Here's what happened.

HEMET, CA — A Hemet man was identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash Friday evening, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Coroner's Bureau reports.
Tyron Marchioni, 52, died at the scene of the crash just under 100 feet east of Tenaja Truck Trail on the Ortega Highway, according to the coroner's report. California Highway Patrol, Temecula Division, was investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
On Friday, shortly before 3:30 p.m., Marchioni was riding a 2025 Husqvarna FE 501s motorcycle and was traveling eastbound on State Route 74, also known as the Ortega Highway, Officer Mike Lassig said. As he approached Tanaja Truck Trail, at an undetermined speed, a 22-year-old Lake Elsinore driver in a 2007 Lexus IS250 northbound on Tanaja Truck Trail stopped at Ortega, waiting to turn left to proceed westbound on SR-74.

"As Marchioni traversed around a curve in the roadway, the driver of the Lexus turned left in front of the motorcycle and the two collided," CHP Officer Mike Lassig said. "The motorcycle rider was ejected from his motorcycle and landed approximately 115 feet from the area of impact."
Both the California Highway Patrol and Cal Fire responded to the collision scene.

"Cal Fire pronounced the male motorcycle rider deceased and the male Lexus driver was not injured," Lassig said. "After the crash, the Lexus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with CHP investigators. The driver of the Lexus was not impaired."
Speed appears to have been a contributing factor to the collision, according to reports.
"The CHP would like to remind the motoring public to be mindful of their speed," Lassig said. "Traveling at too great a speed can prevent a motorist from being able to avoid a collision. Drive with a high visual horizon and at a safe speed for the roadway conditions."
