Felon Ran Victim Down With Vehicle In Lake Mathews: RSO

LAKE MATHEWS, CA — A 48-year-old Lake Mathews man remained behind bars Monday after pleading not guilty to assault with a deadly weapon.

Brian Charles Paul entered his plea on Friday and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail at Riverside's Robert Presley Detention Center, according to county records.

Paul was arrested Nov. 18 on Mission Boulevard in Riverside, three months after he allegedly ran someone down with his vehicle.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 9, Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station deputies were called to the 22000 block of Gavilan Road in Lake Mathews regarding a victim who was struck by a vehicle.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was sent to an area hospital with injuries described by the sheriff's department as non-life-threatening.

The driver who allegedly hit the victim fled the scene before deputies arrived. During the investigation into the incident, Paul was identified as the suspect, but he remained at large.

Finally, on Nov. 18, during an unrelated investigation, the Lake Mathews Station Special Enforcement Team found Paul, who was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Court records show Paul is a convicted felon. He is next due to appear in court on Dec. 4 for a felony settlement conference.
