Junkyard Fire Threatens Mead Valley Residents, Motorists

MEAD VALLEY, CA — A fire that erupted Tuesday in a Mead Valley junkyard threatened several mobile homes and passenger vehicles before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Yucca and Withers roads, about two miles west of Interstate 215, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning in a large refuse pile, posing an immediate threat to at least two mobile homes, a bus and other vehicles.

Crews quickly established hose lays, containing the fire at 2:10 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

Firefighters were expected to complete mopping up at the location by 3 p.m.
