Man Facing Four Years For Killing Dog With Golf Club
Larry Edward Jaurequi, 58, allegedly struck the 6-pound Chihuahua with the club and sent it flying into the air. If convicted for the crime of animal cruelty, he faces up to four years in custody.
A man will stand trial for animal cruelty for allegedly killing a Chihuahua with a golf club, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
On Jan. 26, Larry Edward Jaurequi, 58, allegedly struck the 6-pound dog with the club and sent it flying into the air. The animal was taken to a nearby veterinary hospital, but it died from its injuries.
The incident occurred in the area of High Ridge Circle and Summitrose Drive in Menifee.

Jaurequi was arrested at the time, but posted bail the next day.
During a preliminary hearing today, Riverside Superior Court Judge Larrie Brainard ordered the Menifee man to stand trial in the case.

Jaurequi is charged with one count of felony animal cruelty along with an enhancement of personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon. He is scheduled to return to court July 18. If convicted, he could face a maximum of up to four years in custody, according to the DA’s office.
