RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A new Metrolink station is planned for Riverside County.

It was announced Tuesday that the California State Transportation Agency awarded $40.5 million in grant funds to the Riverside County Transportation Commission for the development and construction of a new Metrolink station/mobility hub off Interstate 215 in the unincorporated region of Mead Valley.

The new station, which is a partnership between RCTC and Metrolink, will be located between the existing Moreno Valley/March Field and Perris Downtown Metrolink stations along the Metrolink 91/Perris Valley Line. The line serves communities along I-215, connecting Moreno Valley, Perris, and the San Jacinto Valley, which are home to increased housing and industrial/commercial development.

In addition to the state funding, locally controlled dollars are being used for the project. Measure A — the twice voter-approved half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements in Riverside County — will provide $3.7 million to the project. About $6.3 million will come from RCTC-controlled State Transit Assistance funds, according to RCTC.

The state grant funding was via the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program.

"As more people move to the cities and communities along the I-215 corridor, the Riverside County Transportation Commission is planning for the future. Riverside County residents need more choices as we deal with increasing traffic congestion, driven by our region’s rapid growth,” said RCTC Chair and City of Beaumont Councilmember Lloyd White.

The Mead Valley Metrolink Station/Mobility Hub is a part of RCTC’s Traffic Relief Plan released earlier this year.
