Pedestrian Killed Along Interstate 215 In Riverside ID'd By Coroner

The man was fatally injured Tuesday at the Alessandro on-ramp to southbound I-215, according to the California Highway Patrol.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A 34-year-old man who was struck and killed adjacent to Interstate 215 in Riverside was attempting to cross a freeway on-ramp when a sedan ran into him, investigators said Friday.

Kevin Abric of Riverside was fatally injured 6:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Alessandro on-ramp to southbound I-215, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Javier Navarro said Abric was walking along the right shoulder of the freeway when he tried to walk eastbound, across the entrance ramp, for reasons unclear.

Navarro said the driver of a Hyundai sedan was entering the freeway from Alessandro at roughly 40 mph when the victim appeared directly in front of him.

"The driver attempted to avoid a crash with the pedestrian but was unable to," the CHP spokesman said. "The right front of the Hyundai collided with the pedestrian."

The motorist, who was not injured, immediately stopped and called 911.

Riverside Fire Department paramedics reached the location within 10 minutes and pronounced Abric dead at the scene.
