Police Patrols To Ramp Up In Lake Elsinore, Wildomar Through New Year's Day
Extra officers on the roads will be scanning for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the holiday period.
LAKE ELSINORE, CA — More sheriff's deputies will be deployed throughout Lake Elsinore and Wildomar beginning Friday through New Year's Day, authorities announced Wednesday.
Deputies will be on the lookout for drivers suspected of being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol as part of a national "high visibility" campaign, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
“We want to make sure everyone gets home safely so that they can celebrate the holiday season with their families and loved ones,” Deputy Grisso said. “Not only is driving impaired illegal, but it is also dangerous and never acceptable. We are asking everyone to do their part to keep themselves and everyone on the roads safe.”

The agency is urging residents imbibing to either stay in for the evening or plan ahead by designating a sober driver, using public transit or calling a taxi or ride-share service.
The office warns that impaired driving isn't just from alcohol.

"Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, cannabis products and other drugs may also cause impairment. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a driving warning label, let someone who is sober drive. If you see someone who appears to be driving while impaired, call 9–1–1," the sheriff's office said.
Funding for extra patrols this month is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
