Suspect Arrested, Victim ID'd In Lake Elsinore Fatal Shooting

After a two day investigation, officers arrested one man on suspicion of shooting another Saturday night in Lake Elsinore.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station deputies have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting another in Lake Elsinore over the weekend.

Ian Norwood Wentz, 47, of Lake Elsinore, was booked into Byrd Detention Center and is being held at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta on Monday on suspicion of murder, according to jail records. His bail was set at $1 million, and he awaits a court date on Thursday at the Southwest Justice Center.

On Saturday, just before 8:45 p.m., deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a man down in the 2000 block of East Lakeshore Drive, according to Sgt. Alberto Loureiro.

Garrett Pickering, 34, also a Lake Elsinore resident, was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was released following notification of the next of kin.

The alleged motive and circumstances behind the shooting were not immediately available.
Wentz surrendered to homicide investigators at the Lake Elsinore sheriff's station on Sunday, Loureiro said.
