Wildomar Man Accused Of Shooting At Canyon Lake Bar

MURRIETA, CA — A 39-year-old probationer accused of firing a rifle at a Canyon Lake bar pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of shooting at an inhabited structure and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Cody Keith Hill of Wildomar was arrested Friday after the alleged offense in the 31000 block of Railroad Canyon Road, near Canyon Lake Drive.

Hill, who also faces a sentence-enhancing allegation of illegal use of a gun, was arraigned before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Stephen Gallon, who scheduled a status hearing for Dec. 1 at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta and set the defendant's bail at $1 million.

Hill is being held at the Byrd Detention Center.

According to sheriff's Sgt. Julio Olguin, the defendant allegedly stopped his vehicle in front of the pub about 1 p.m. last Friday and fired at least one shot, not hitting any of the occupants.

It was unclear why Hill allegedly targeted the establishment.

The probationer immediately fled back to his residence in the 34000 block of Jennifer Drive, where deputies served a search warrant hours later and took Hill into custody without a struggle and seized a total of 13 rifles, four handguns and several shotguns, as well as 2,500 rounds of ammunition, the sergeant alleged.

He said a woman at the property, 38-year-old Paola Jimenez, allegedly turned hostile toward deputies during the search and was detained. She was ultimately arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm. She posted a $10,000 bond and was released the following day.

Hill has a prior misdemeanor conviction for hit-and-run resulting in property damage, according to court records. No information was available regarding Jimenez.
