Woman's Body Found Near Lake Mathews, Authorities Release Identity

A homicide investigation is underway in the death of the 27-year-old Perris resident whose body was discovered near a dirt road.

LAKE MATHEWS, CA — The body of a woman found this week in Lake Mathews has been identified and a homicide investigation is underway.

The remains of Kenia Valenzuela, 27, of Perris were discovered around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of El Nido and Santa Rosa Mine roads, according to a report from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"When deputies arrived at the location, they found a female with obvious signs of death lying next to a dirt road. A crime scene was established and the Central Homicide Unit responded to assume the investigation," the agency reported.

Details about how Valenzuela died were not released, and no arrests or suspect description were announced in the case.
