El Toro High School To Host Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Residents will be able to dispose of waste like paints, aerosol cans, pesticides and used motor oil at the Lake Forest school.

LAKE FOREST, CA — Residents will get the chance to get rid of household hazardous waste like used motor oil and paint when El Toro High School hosts a collection event in June.

City officials and CR&R Environmental Services will hold the event on June 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on June 12, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The waste collection will be at the high school's student parking lot on the corner of Ridge Route Drive and Serrano Road, Lake Forest officials said.

While the collection event is free, city officials said residents must show proof of residency, either through a valid driver's license or utility bill.

The types of hazardous waste accepted at the event include:

  • Paint and painting supplies — latex, oil-based, thinners, strippers, stains and finishes
  • Automative products — oil, antifreeze, brake and transmission fluid, batteries
  • Cleaning products — drain cleaner, oven cleaner, pool chemicals
  • Pesticides and herbicides — bug sprays, rodent poison and bait, repellents
  • Aerosol cans

  • Electronics — televisions, computer monitors, stereo equipment, DVD players, cellphones, printers
  • Household batteries
  • Fluorescent lightbulbs and tubes

Residents should keep the hazardous waste separate and in their original containers. Containers should be clearly labeled and have lids, be sturdy and not leaking.

The disposal event will not accept containers that are more than five gallons.
