1 Arrested in Weekend DUI Checkpoint on Spring Street

Close to 500 vehicles were stopped for drunken-driving and driver's licenses inspections; 10 cars were impounded.

Saturday night’s DUI checkpoint on Spring Street led to one arrest and 10 vehicles being impounded, La Mesa police said Monday.

The La Mesa Police Department conducted the latest in a series of drunken-driving and driver’s license inspections in the 4100 block of Spring St.  for six hours, ending early Sunday morning.

According to Sgt. Peter Andersson:

  • 483 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint.
  • 14 drivers were taken into the secondary inspection area.
  • Three drivers were further evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  One of those drivers was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
  • 17 citations were issued for vehicle code violations.
  • 10 vehicles were impounded for driver’s license violations.

 “This checkpoint is another reminder from the La Mesa Police Department that driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license will not be tolerated,” Anderson said. 

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
