– Dr. Charles Halff, founder of the "Christian Jew Radio" program, spoke at Fair Havens Baptist Church on Lamar Street. Halff, a converted German Jew, spoke to the congregation about matters in the church. His popular radio program has a daily audience of more than 5 million people worldwide, including listeners from Russia, the Middle East, Spain, India and the United States.

– A "Monte Carlo Night" fundraising event was held at St. John's of the Cross church in Lemon Grove as a way to help the Mt. Miguel marching band pay for a trip to Pasadena, CA to represent Spring Valley in the annual "Tournament of Roses Parade." Tickets to the fundraiser were exchanged for $12,500 worth of "play money," in which the audience could participate in various casino games. Entertainment was provided by Scruffy the Clown, and bellydancers Ahshgara and Shaleshaa.

– A spate of CB radio thefts is leaving many Spring Valley residents asking "What's your 20?" to their radios. Paul Bernard Kaiser (valued at $440), Bobby Edward House (a 23-channel radio valued at $100), Kenneth C. Casty (no value established), Jack L. Fleming (no value established) and Robert Shephard (Kras model CB and tape deck valued at $595) all reported having their radios taken, from either their homes or vehicles. Sheriff's estimate the the radios are being sold on the black market for about $50.
