ARCO Stations Boast Lowest Prices in La Mesa

Introducing a new weekly column on where to find the cheapest fuel for your drive in La Mesa area.

La Mesans have seen the price of gasoline rise steadily in the past two weeks, with the lowest price for self-serve regular now at $3.69 at two local stations.

The ARCO stations at 9600 Murray Dr. near Grossmont Boulevard and at 4925 Spring St. at Mills Street currently have the lowest prices in La Mesa, according to GasBuddy.com which reflects prices within the past 24 hours.

The ARCOs at 7594 University Ave. and 7974 University are selling regular for $3.74. The Union 76 at 6085 Lake Murray Blvd., the ARCO at 3775 Massachusetts Ave. and the 7-Eleven at 4610 Avacado Blvd. are all selling a gallon for $3.75.

The average price in the county, $3.82, is 2.8 cents more than a week ago and 69 cents higher than a year ago, but 5.4 cents less than one month ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

“Oil prices continue to hover near $100 a barrel and that is impacting gas prices locally,” said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. “Even though prices are now about 50 cents lower than their peak 2011 levels reached in May, this is still the second most expensive summer we've ever experienced for gasoline prices behind 2008.”

According to AAA, the state average is $3.81 and the national average is $3.69. The national average a year ago was $2.71. Connecticut has the highest state average at $4.04 and Colorado has the lowest at $3.51.
