Caltrans to Activate Ramp Meter on Northbound SR-125 at Campo Road Beginning Wednesday

The meter will alternate lanes, allowing two cars to enter the freeway on the green light.

Motorists are reminded that the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will activate the ramp meter from Campo Road to northbound State Route 125 on weekday mornings from 5:30-9:30 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Nov. 16.

The meter will alternate lanes, allowing two cars to enter the freeway on the green light.

Caltrans placed signs last week alerting motorists in advance of the first day of operation.   The meter’s green light will be switched on the day before to help familiarize drivers to the change.

Ramp meters keep large volumes of vehicles from entering the freeway all at once and pushing it past its designed capacity.  Motorists are delayed for a brief time at the meter, but studies show that freeway speeds, overall travel times and highway safety are improved.
