Gang of Young Men Attack Pair of Boys at Amaya Trolley Station

One assailant had a gun in violent attack that took wallet and cell phone.

A gang of five or six young men were being sought Tuesday in the wake of a violent robbery of two boys near the Amaya trolley station, police said.

Officers were called to an area near the station at 9100 Amaya Drive about 9:40 p.m. Monday, according to La Mesa police.

They found one of the assailants had grabbed a necklace from around the neck of one of the juvenile victims and that the second victim was knocked to the ground and hit in the face by two or three of the assailants, police said.

The second victim was struck for refusing to hand over his wallet and cell phone, police said, noting that one of the assailants eventually took the items at gunpoint before he and his accomplices ran off toward the trolley station.

The beating victim declined medical treatment at the scene.

Police described the assailants as tall, skinny black males in their late teens. One had a short Afro with a white streak through it, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery was urged to call La Mesa police at 619-667-1400.
