Grossmont Softball Team Tunes Up for CIF With 7-1 Victory Over Helix
Hillers spoil Senior Day for Highlanders, look ahead to CIF playoffs next week.
Helix drew first blood, scoring with two outs in the fourth inning. But Grossmont came back with two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth Saturday morning to spoil the host Scotties’ Senior Day in a closing game of the league softball season. Next up for the Hillers: CIF playoffs. Coach Jerry Lerud’s Foothillers lifted their overall record to 20-9-1 and league to 9-2-0, while Helix fell to 9-16-1 (3-7-0 in league) as seniors coached by Kellie Nelson received flowers, plaques with their photos and a picnic brunch in right field. Departing seniors—who circled the bases to cheers from family and opponents—were Carly Aceves, Amber Davis, Claudette Smith and Savannah McCully.
