Helix Haunts Yet Another Foe with a 42-Point Victory: This Week It’s Valhalla

Brandon Lewis completes 16 of 20 passes for 258 yards to lead Scotties over the Norsemen.

Helix Charter High School cloned its score against Grossmont a week earlier, beating host Valhalla 42-0 Friday night for its sixth straight win this season. In the past four games, the Scotties have outscored opponents 195-10 to cement their county No. 1 ranking.

The Highlanders recovered a fumble 2 minutes into the game and Kacy Smith scored on a Brandon Lewis pass less than a minute later to open the scoring. After a Darrion Hancock running touchdown and a Smith TD pass, the first quarter ended with Helix up 21-0.

Kendal Keys intercepted a Norsemen pass with 3:14 left in the first half, but quarterback Lewis was picked off on the next play. No matter. Despite seeing action limited to the first half, Lewis completed 16 of 20 passes for 258 yards and four touchdowns.  Hancock was the top Helix rusher with 43 yards and two touchdowns.

The Highlanders host Granite Hills at 7 p.m. Friday, hoping not to look ahead to Steele Canyon the following week, which will determine the Grossmont Hills League champion, and the CIF San Diego playoffs to follow.
