In the Ribbons: Dozens of La Mesans, Including Helix Students, Display Works at Fair

Del Mar Fair honors residents with skills in cooking, wood and jewelry design and photography.

At least 70 La Mesans have works of art, wood, jewelry, photography and culinary excellence on display at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, including Felice Presley, whose molded cookies and soup recipe in a jar took first-place ribbons.

Helix Charter High School’s Kyle Theruox is one of 13 local students with art on exhibit at the fair’s student showcase. But his offset lithography print received special recognition: best of show. His teacher was Renee Ackerman.

La Mesa had four other “best of class” winners—Amber Crowe of Art with Larisse (in special edication-fine art), taught by Mary Longbottom; Rachel Greenberg of Steele Canyon High School (in acrylic 2D), taught by Kenda Francis; eighth-grader Zach Bernstein of Mount Helix Academy (in group project-fine art), taught by Stephanie Bedwell; and Julia Rey of Helix Adult School (in pastel 2D), taught by Barbara Peterson.
