Infant Dies After Apperent Drowning In Spring Valley Swimming Pool

Authorities Thursday are investigating the apparent drowning of a 16-month-old child in a backyard swimming pool in Spring Valley.
The child was found unresponsive in the pool in the 1200 block of Elkelton Boulevard around 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Jim Walker.
The child was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival, he said. The infant's name and gender were not immediately released.

As is routine in such cases, homicide and child abuse detectives were investigating the drowning, Walker said.
