Jake Reed Pitches Complete-Game Shutout to Lead Helix at Petco Park

Steele Canyon, another charter high school, falls 1-0 as hundreds turn out to watch preps play in home of the traveling Padres.

In the home of the typically low-scoring major league game, two East County schools dueled to a 1-0 decision on Friday.

Jake Reed, a right-hander who contributed a single to the cause, led Helix Charter High School over Steele Canyon, another charter school, in a rare high school appearance at Petco Park  downtown.

Reed, a senior who is now 6-0, had his no-hit bid ruined in the sixth inning but went the distance for a three-hit shutout, striking out seven in the Grossmont Hills League game.
