Adam Michael Nordhues, 41, of La Mesa is accused of assaulting the couple, both 69 years old, without provocation, police said.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 41-year-old man was behind bars Tuesday for allegedly attacking his parents with a knife during a visit to their Coronado home, seriously wounding them.

Adam Michael Nordhues of La Mesa allegedly assaulted the couple, both 69 years old, without provocation shortly before 9 p.m. Monday at a condominium complex in the 1700 block of Avenida Del Mundo, just west of Glorietta Bay, according to the Coronado Police Department.

Nordhues allegedly ignored repeated orders to drop the weapon and surrender, prompting officers to zap him several times with an electric stun gun. They were then able to take him into custody without further incident.

After being treated at a hospital for minor injuries, Nordhues was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
