Man Fatally Shot In La Mesa
Investigators do not believe this was a random act of violence, according to the La Mesa Police Department.
LA MESA, CA — A man was fatally shot over the weekend in La Mesa, authorities said.
A gunshot was reported at about 12:35 a.m. Sunday in the area of Waite Drive and Violet Street, according to the La Mesa Police Department. Officers found a vehicle parked in the 7100 block of Waite Drive with a shattered driver's side window.
"Officers then discovered an unresponsive male with a gunshot wound to the upper torso sitting in the driver's seat," Lt. Katy Lynch said.

Authorities performed first aid on the victim, but the man, who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lynch said. The man's identity was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
Police said a suspect wearing a dark hoodie fired a shot at the victim before fleeing in a dark-colored, four-door sedan traveling eastbound on Waite Drive, Lynch said.

"The relationship between the suspect and the victim is unknown, but investigators do not believe this was a random act of violence," Lynch said.
