Monte Vista Junior Encourages Youth To Stay Drug Free

Being a mentor is just one of the many things in which this week's Whiz Kid is involved.

Outstanding achievement: Andrea has a time-consuming, multi-level involvement in trying to improve the situation at her school, at other schools, and in her community.

Key to awesomeness: Andrea is a mentor for younger students at , where she tries to encourage kids to stay drug free. She mentors a group of about 15, and makes herself available for one-on-one sessions. In addition, she also participates in Camp Lead, a program through the Grossmont Union High School District that teaches students how to change their campuses for the better, by teaching them to open people's minds about and end racism and classism. Andrea is also a member of the cheerleading squad, a part of the Friday Night Live club, and plays soccer and lacrosse for the Monarchs.
