Police Arrest Driver, Give Citations at Roadway Safety Operation
La Mesa Police also issued 52 citations to pedestrians and drivers.

One suspected drunken driver was arrested, and several citations were issued to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists Friday at a roadway safety operation in La Mesa, police reported.
Extra officers were put on the streets to help educate both pedestrians and drivers about the dangers of not following the rules of the road. The operation resulted in one driver being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, 52 citations issued to pedestrians and drivers for "hazardous, accident causing violations" and two citations to bicyclists, La Mesa Police reported in a released statement.
According to La Mesa Police, in 2010 there were 4,280 pedestrians killed and about 70,000 were injured in traffic crashes throughout the United States.

According to police, data from the U.S. Department of Transportation shows 68 percent of fatal pedestrian crashes happen at night, and 48 percent of fatal pedestrian crashes occur on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
