Poll: What’s So Special? Are High School Grads Puffed Up Too Much?
Commencement season is nearing end. Has our culture given teenagers the wrong attitude?
At a recent commencement, teacher David McCullough Jr. of Wellesley High School in Massachusetts uttered the unthinkable: You are not special. (See attached video.) On YouTube, the talk went viral—with nearly 1.5 million viewings. Graduations are being held today at Grossmont High School, Mount Miguel and Monte Vista. Should someone there repeat the point that Lake Wobegone is a myth, and and not every child is “above average”? Or do teens need affirmation now more than ever?
