Smoke in Your House? It Might Be City Sewer Pipes Smoke Testing

I just looked up from my computer and noticed smoke wafting through my living room- a rather unsettling sight. But, I quickly remembered the flier I received from the city concerning
smoke testing of sewer pipes in the south west section of the La Mesa starting June 17.

Remembering that the flier said smoke might come in the house through unused sinks or drains in the house, I checked the bathroom that's being remodeled, and low and behold, the smoke had found its way in through a bathtub. I simply poured some water in the drain to block any further smoke from getting in.

Smoke testing is a tool that the City uses to detect defects in the sewer pipes and system.

The testing will begin in the area between El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue from La Mesa Boulevard west to city limits. The testing will progress south and finish in the area between University Avenue and State Route 94 from Spring Street west to city limits.
