Vacant Land Off Fletcher Parkway Being Put Up for Auction by Caltrans

Multiresidential lot is 32,000 square feet, with bids starting at $78,000. Registration fee is $7,500.

A vacant, weed-strewn lot near the intersection of Fletcher Parkway and state Route 125 is one of three in the county being put up for auction by Caltrans on Sept. 15.

According to Loopnet.com, the multiresidential lot at 8880 Fletcher Pkwy. is 32,000 square feet, with an opening price of $78,000. But bidders have to pay a registration fee of $7,500, according to the attached brochure.

The California Department of Transportation also will auction parcels in Spring Valley and Oceanside—part of a state program to dispose of “excess land.”

The La Mesa lot, near the Albertsons market, doesn’t come with financing, the brochure says.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the oral auction will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 in the Garcia Conference Room at the District Office Complex at 4050 Taylor St.

More information about the parcels is available on the Caltrans website at www.dot.ca.gov/property.

“All sales will be ‘as is’ and final, subject to approval by the California Transportation Committee,” Caltrans said in a news release.

What is excess land?

The state calls it property that Caltrans “originally acquired for a transportation project or other operational need such as a maintenance station.  The property becomes excess when the department determines that it will no longer be necessary for a transportation project or other operational need.”

Proceeds from the sale of excess land go to the State Highway Account and used for future transportation projects, Caltrans says.
