Village Merchants Group: We’ve Hired Attorney and CPA Amid Concerns

Board of directors: "[We] reviewed these matters both as part of [our] annual corporate review and in response to some concerns ... about the operations of La Mesa Village Merchants Association."

To the editor:

As a volunteer, nonprofit organization, La Mesa Village Merchants Association has worked diligently year after year to host long-established events that are popular not only throughout San Diego County, but also Southern California.

These events include Oktoberfest, Christmas In The Village, Back To The '50s Car Show and the Antique Street Faire.  Through these events, La Mesa Village Merchants Association attracts hundreds of thousands of people to La Mesa Village each year, increasing local revenue and making La Mesa Village famous as a charming, successful, and historic downtown. As part of promoting La Mesa as an excellent place to visit, work, and live, the La Mesa Village Merchants Association has remained true to its founding objectives:

3) To promote business within the boundaries of the Village through public service announcements, advertising, special events, and other means that may be appropriate. To ensure that La Mesa Village Merchants Association continues to serve these objectives and to ensure complete compliance with all California and federal laws, recently La Mesa Village Merchants Association examined its corporate procedures and documents.

La Mesa Village Merchants Association reviewed these matters both as part of its annual corporate review and in response to some concerns in the community about the operations of La Mesa Village Merchants Association.

As part of this review and a plan to update its corporate documents, La Mesa Village Merchants Association has hired both an attorney and a certified public accountant who specialize in advising nonprofit organizations.

As La Mesa Village Merchants Association moves on and looks forward to our most famous event, Oktoberfest, we thank our members, the public and the City of La Mesa for their continued support.

We also thank our former board members, who served on the board for years and helped shape La Mesa Village Merchants Association and its practices and policies.

As current board members, it’s rewarding to know that once people have served on the Board of Directors of La Mesa Village Merchants Association, they remain loyal to the organization and dedicated to seeing it become a better, stronger force for economic expansion and civic service in La Mesa.
