2 Arrested After Chase, Barricade During Burglary Probe: Contra Costa Sheriff

Detectives were investigating multiple vehicle burglaries out of Lafayette, which resulted in the arrests in Stockton, police said.

STOCKTON, CA — Two people wanted in connection with multiple Lafayette vehicle burglaries were recently arrested in Stockton, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Leticia Fernandez, 25, of Oakland, and Jose Luis Barajas Avalos, 29, of Oakland, were both held without bail on charges of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, resisting an officer, conspiracy and violating probation, police said. Fernandez was also charged with evading an officer, according to police.

"Fernandez and Barajas Avalos are also suspects in other crimes in the Bay Area," the sheriff's office said in a social media post announcing the arrests.

Lafayette detectives were in Stockton on Tuesday looking for a stolen car associated with people wanted in the July burglaries, police said, adding the detectives found the vehicle. A police pursuit occurred and a person fled on foot and barricaded herself in an apartment, according to authorities, who later arrested Fernandez and Avalos when they tried to leave the unit.
