El Charro To Reopen, But Not On Mt. Diablo Boulevard

The beloved restaurant is returning. Are you willing to drive a bit farther?

LAFAYETTE, CA — Many Lamorinda families were crushed when a restaurant they had frequented for generations shut down last year amid the pandemic.

After more than 70 years, grandparents could tell stories of eating at the restaurant as young children with their own grandparents.

It's time to plan another family meal, this time at The Original El Charro 1947, which is expected to open by the end of the year in Walnut Creek, according to Diablo Magazine.

The new restaurant will have the same treasured recipes passed down through the years, along with some additions from Maria Maria. El Charro is merging with Maria Maria at 1470 N. Broadway.
