LAMORINDA, CA — Fire crews with the Moraga-Oridina Fire District successfully burned hazardous vegetation Tuesday as part of an ongoing effort to create a more fire-adapted ecosystem.

According to fire officials, Tuesday's operation involved burning piles in the Tunnel-East Bay Hills Shaded Fuel Break, which is near the unincorporated community of Canyon. The district said crews burned nearly 50 piles of vegetation and will continue the project as weather and air quality allow.

The burns are designed to reduce wildfire hazards, maintain the shaded fuel break, and enhance conditions for native plants and wildlife in the area.
