Moraga Police Log: Suspicious Shoppers, Loud Youths, Safeway Shoplifters
Some of the incidents that kept Moraga police officers busy this past week

Here are some of the items from the Moraga Police Department log from Oct. 10 to Oct. 14.
Thursday, Oct. 10
Door-to-door solicitor: Police responded at 12:12 p.m. to a neighborhood on Sanders Drive where a homeowner say a man going door to door. Officers contacted the man, who said he was doing yard work in the area and was asking other residents in they needed work done. The man was informed that a solicitor's permit is needed to do this.
Loud dog: Officers went to a home on Marie Place at 9:12 p.m. to check on a resident's complaint that a dog was barking constantly and loudly. Officers didn't her any noise when they arrived. The caller was advised to control Animal Control officials if the problem continues.
Friday, Oct. 11
Fallen bicycle rider: At 7:35 a.m., officers went to Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School to check on a student who said he was injured after being knocked off his bicycle at the intersection of Canyon Road and Camino Pablo. Officers determined the boy had embellished his story and was injured when he simply fell off his bike. The motorist was an adult who stopped to make sure he was OK.
Suspicious purchases: Police responded at 8:14 p.m. to a store on the 500 block of Moraga Road where a clerk told them two women had tried to purchase alcohol with 12 credit cards and eight gift cards. All the cards were declined. The women drove off in a black, four-door vehicle.
Loud play: Officers went to Commons Park at 8:57 p.m. for a report on juveniles making a lot of noise and possibly drinking. Officers spotted a group of youths near the volleyball courts. All but one ran when police arrived. The remaining juvenile had not been drinking. He was advised the park was closed.
Loud party: At 10:19 p.m., officers went to an apartment in the 1900 block of Ascot Drive for a report of a loud party. Police located a birthday party for a 20-year-old man in which about 130 people were attending. The party was peacefully broken up. The apartment resident was given a warning notice.
Saturday, Oct. 12
Safeway shoplifters: Officers went to the Safeway store on Moraga Way at 1:12 p.m. for a report that two women had stolen a cartful of groceries and then driven off in a silver Chevrolet van. Orinda police located the vehicle in their city. Three women were arrested there on commercial burglary and other charges.
Theft from auto: A woman called police at 4 p.m. to report her purse with $10 inside was stolen from her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the 1000 block of Carter Avenue.
Sunday, Oct. 13
Another loud party: Officers went to an apartment on Wandel Drive at 1:51 p.m. for reports of a loud party. They discovered 40 people at the celebration. The party was dispersed and the apartment resident was given a warning.
Monday, Oct. 14
DUI arrest: A 22-year-old Lafayette man was arrested at 12:05 a.m. at Camino Pablo and Sanders Ranch Road after his vehicle was stopped for driving without its lights on and going through two stop signs. Officers found a 17-year-old girl who had been drinking hiding in the back seat. She was taken to her parents. The vehicle's driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
