Moraga Remembers Those Who Served On This Veterans Day
Ceremony in Moraga Commons Park pays tribute to the nation's military personnel
Veterans past, present and future were recognized Monday at a ceremony at Moraga Commons Park.
Close to 100 people attended the 40-minute Veterans Day ceremony where citizens were asked to honor those who have served in the U.S. military
Moraga Boy Scout Troops 212, 234 and 246 were on hand. They began the tribute with the color guard advancement and Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Dave Trotter called on those in attendance to thank veterans when they see them. He also asked people to remember military personnel who are returning from the war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"We should do everything in our power to make sure they can return to full health," said Trotter.
Councilman Mike Metcalf told the audience they can pay back the veterans by being good citizens.
"They aren't just veterans of the service. They are our heroes," said Metcalf.
Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Bert Benson said Veterans Day is a day to pause and honor the nation's military personnel.
"It's a day to remember our veterans. It's a day to reflect on their sacrifices," he said.
Benson added people should think of those who have served in the past, those who are serving now and those who will serve in the future.
"Our freedom must be fought for and handed down," the retired admiral said.
