LAMORINDA, CA — Crews with the Moraga-Orinda Fire District started burning piled material Tuesday in the Tunnel–East Bay Hills Shaded Fuel Break project area near Wilder Road and state Highway 24.

Smoke may be visible from residences in the Wilder development and to passing motorists on SR-24 near Gateway, the fire district said.

It is a multi-day project to burn piles of vegetation that were cut and stacked earlier this year to reduce wildfire fuels in the area. The prescribed burn was initially scheduled to start Monday but was postponed one day as crews helped respond to weather-related incidents.

Burning should be completed by 4 p.m. Tuesday and will resume around 10 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, according to fire officials.

MOFD is coordinating the project with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the burn is conducted safely and with minimal smoke impacts. Residents are advised to close exterior doors and windows to keep smoke from entering their homes.
