Smoke Advisory: 3-Day Prescribed Burn Underway In Orinda

LAMORINDA, CA — Residents in Sleepy Hollow and other portions of North Orinda can expect to see smoke from a prescribed burn this week, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District said.

Firefighters were set to use low-intensity prescribed fire to maintain the North Orinda Shaded Fuel Break along Bear Creek Road starting Wednesday, Aug. 2, through Friday, Aug. 4. Burn hours were scheduled to be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

MOFD, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and Contra Costa County Public Works have been working together to ensure the burn is conducted safely and with minimal impacts to the community, the fire district said in a news release.

"Safety is the number one priority," MOFD said. "If burning conditions become unfavorable the project will be rescheduled."

Authorities advised residents to close exterior doors and windows to keep smoke from entering their homes. Signs cautioning motorists and cyclists of fire equipment traffic and the potential of reduced visibility were posted in the area.
