Community Corner

Help Stop Concussions

As schools prepare for the fall sports season, Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) will be hosting a forum on sports concussion management to better inform and engage the community on how to keep our student athletes safe. The forum is tonight, 7-8:30 p.m., at Redwood High School's small gym.

Marin and Sonoma County residents are invited to learn more about the impact of concussions on children, federal efforts to improve safety, and the steps local officials are taking to keep students informed. Student athletes, parents, coaches, medical professionals, and educators are especially encouraged to attend. The forum will be led by a panel of sports concussion experts, including:

· Ben Lynch: former San Francisco 49ers Offensive Lineman, Board Member of Sports Legacy Institute

· Eric Freitag Psy.D.: ImPACT testing expert, Founder of the Sports Concussion Program

· Gunnar Sandberg: former Marin Catholic High School athlete

· Jon Black: Head Varsity Football Coach, Tamalpais High School

· Carlin Senter M.D.: Director of the UCSF Concussion Clinic

· Parker Trahan: Marin Catholic High School athlete

· Kimberly Strub: Chair of the Marin Brain Injury Network
