2 DUI Arrests at Friday-Night Checkpoint

Sheriff's deputies stop drivers on Broadway, checking licenses and looking for signs of impairment.

A DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in Lemon Grove Friday night resulted in two drivers arrested for suspicion of DUI and 24 citations issued for suspended, revoked or no driver’s license, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The checkpoint operated in the 7900 block of Broadway between 8:00 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Herbert Taft. Deputies contacted 646 drivers during the operation and sent 43 to a secondary inspection area. Ten vehicles were impounded.

Approximately 20 DUI-trained deputies staffed the checkpoint, which was funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
